How Long Does Orthodontic Treatment Take? | E&S Orthodontics

Even before the initial consultation, anyone considering braces wonders how long they’ll need to wear them. Even though you’re excited about having a beautiful new smile, like most patients, you’re hoping that day arrives as fast as possible. The fact is that orthodontic treatment times vary from person to person based on their own unique challenges.

The average time for orthodontic treatment is 14 to 18 months for relatively simple cases. This can extend out to 24 months. How long treatment takes can be affected by several variables, including the severity of the problem and the rate of growth. Treatment length is also influenced by the patient and whether they keep to their scheduled appointments, listen to and follow the orthodontist’s instructions and maintain good oral hygiene.

Over the years, we’ve introduced a number of ways to shorten orthodontic treatment times, including the following strategies.

Propel

The Propel system works with a high frequency vibration aligner seater and the patient’s own biology, stimulating the bone that surrounds the teeth and cellular activity. Patients can expect great results in less time.

AcceleDent

This treatment applies precisely calibrated vibrations that are transmitted through the roots of the teeth to the bone that surrounds it. The gentle vibration increases the cellular activity, also speeding up the rate in which teeth can move.

Custom Braces

Customized braces make it possible to determine the end-result of placement for every tooth. Custom braces typically result in faster treatment time and fewer office visits.

The Damon System

The Damon system reduces treatment time and also allows us to treat our patients in a more comfortable way. Damon can take 6 to 8 months less time than other orthodontic treatments. Damon passive self-ligating braces eliminate the need for metal or elastic ties and treatment doesn’t require tightening. The system uses innovate “shape-memory” wires that can move teeth faster with fewer adjustments.
