How Long Does Invisalign Treatment Take | E&S Orthodontics

One of the questions we get asked the most regarding Invisalign is “How long will it take?” We know from experience that nearly every patient we work with wants to be in treatment for the shortest possible time. This is a something that we keep in mind, however, it’s important to understand that we will never compromise the end result of treatment by rushing you through the process.

How long Invisalign treatment takes depends on several aspects including how complex your case is. There’s no exact formula for estimating how long a patient will need treatment, because each patient has their own unique tooth alignment that will need to be factored in. In most cases, our experience has been that Invisalign treatment can last anywhere from 6 to 18 months.

One of the factors beyond the orthodontist’s control that can lead to a longer treatment time is if the patient doesn’t wear their aligners for the prescribed amount of time (typically 20 to 22 hours a day). Not following the orthodontist’s instructions can end up significantly prolonging treatment. While you need to take the aligners out to brush your teeth or eat (a huge benefit over metal braces), it’s important to wear them at all other times, including at work, school, when you’re sleeping, or during any other activity.

More About Invisalign

Invisalign is a nearly invisible form of braces that offers teens and adults a comfortable, alternative to metal braces. The treatment process involves wearing a series of clear, removable plastic aligners that gently move the teeth into the desired, straightened position.

Why Patient Prefer Invisalign

Patients prefer Invisalign for many reasons, with one of the main being that they know that they can get an extraordinary smile without all the metal. Invisalign can treat a wide range of issues including crowded teeth, crooked teeth, protruding or gapped teeth, open bites, over and under bites. Patients also appreciate how easy it is to care for their teeth during treatment. For example, you can quickly remove the aligners to eat, brush and floss, which also helps sustain improved dental hygiene while consuming normal foods, a significantly different experience when compared to metal braces.
