In this edition of Friday Focus, Dr. O of E&S Orthodontics, your Metro Phoenix Orthodontist, explains why the cost of orthodontic treatment fees can differ from practice to practice.
Many orthodontic patients are surprised that the cost of braces can vary dramatically from practice to practice as they assume the treatment plan and results should be similar. I am here to tell you that comparing orthodontic treatment plan fees can be like a shopping experience. As you “shop around”, you will find that different practices and different doctors are going to employ different systems within their offices to address your orthodontic needs which results in different treatment fees.
So what causes fees to be higher in one office than another?
One answer can be as simple of a fact as some practices accept certain insurances and some don’t – which translates into a difference in out-of-pocket fees for the patient.
Or a patient may choose a low-end orthopedic service because they’re searching for braces at the deepest discount. What needs to be kept in mind when choosing this type of service is the difference between the Dollar Store or Walmart versus going to Macy’s, Dillard’s or Nordstrom. You may get a less expensive fee; however, you may not get the high level of treatment experience nor result you are looking for.
There’s a wide range of treatments which orthodontic offices can provide so it’s really up to you to fish out and look at the different treatment options. And though fees are a big consideration, you should match the experience that you have in the office to the type of service or treatment you’re going to get to receive the smile you are wanting.
When it comes to making health care decisions, we always recommend that your pocketbook not make that decision. You need to be aware that, from office to office, there will be a difference in fees for the aforementioned reasons.
Think of it this way: If you are looking for really solid orthodontic service, there’s a difference between just getting your teeth straightened and actually getting your bite corrected and creating a wide beautiful smile which fits your face in addition to getting your teeth straightened.
You’re going to have to discern what’s right for you by asking some really good questions. In future videos, I will give you the most important questions to ask at your orthodontic consultation to enable you to make the best informed decision regarding your orthodontic treatment.
