FAQ’s
An orthodontist is a dental specialist. These health professionals primarily focus on preventing, diagnosing, and fixing problems surrounding your teeth and jaw, specifically an abnormal bite pattern, crooked teeth, and an unaligned jaw.
No, your Chandler orthodontist does not perform surgery. Orthodontic treatment is non-surgical. If you do require surgery, you’ll be referred to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.
All dentists are trained to remove teeth if necessary. Although it depends on each individual case, if needed your orthodontist may conduct a tooth extraction to give your teeth more room to shift into a healthier position. Talk to your orthodontist to learn more.
Do you have a cavity that requires treatment? If so, book an appointment with your general dentist as opposed to your oral specialist. Even though orthodontists are a type of dentist, they typically don’t deal with preventative treatments like teeth cleanings and dental fillings.
Neither one is better than the other. Both are dental professionals who provide treatment to patients – the main difference is the type of treatment. Dentists routinely deal with cavities, gingivitis, and dental prosthetics like crowns and bridges. Orthodontists administer both traditional braces and Invisalign.
Before you receive any type of dental treatment, schedule a consultation with an orthodontist near you. They’ll evaluate your mouth and take x-rays to fully understand the health of your teeth and gums. If you do require surgery before moving with getting braces, they’ll be able to let you know.
